Firefighters cleaning up trash fire in the area of Rohnert Park Expressway and Labath Avenue 7-12-24 (Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety)
A fire on the back of a garbage truck in Rohnert Park could’ve been a lot worse. Last Friday afternoon, several people called 911 reporting a garbage truck was on fire near the intersection of Rohnert Park Expressway and Labath Avenue. Aware of the fire, the driver went into an empty parking lot and dumped the burning pile of trash there allowing for firefighters to put it out. Once the fire was out, workers with Recology along with the city picked the trash back up again and disposed of contaminants. The cause of the fire is unknown but Rohnert Park City officials took the opportunity to remind folks to dispose of old batteries and flammable items with care. Rohnert Park has a battery drop off box at the Department of Public Safety’s station at 500 City Center Drive.
