350 Acre Forest Near Camp Meeker Set to Become Public Park

More than 350 acres of mixed redwood forest between Occidental and Monte Rio is up for approval to become a public park through a $2.23 million deal funded by the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District. The property has been a part of the historic St. Dorothy’s Rest camp and retreat center for children with terminal illnesses like cancer and organ failure for 12 years. The property will be owned by the Camp Meeker Recreation & Park District once the deal is official, subject to approval by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors as early as August 20th.
