California’s power grid seems to be holding up pretty well despite extreme heat. That’s according to the California Independent System Operator. Cal-ISO CEO and President Elliot Mainzer says they have acquired more than 11-thousand megawatts of new clean resources, bolstering its battery fleet. The lithium-ion batteries charge during the day using solar energy and then put the energy back into the system during the evening. Officials add that while scorching heat has been felt across California, it hasn’t been impacting the entire state all at once, which may have been helping the grid’s performance. Cal-ISO has not issued any flex alerts since 2022.
