New Email Phishing Scam Reported in Petaluma

Petaluma police are warning residents of a phishing scam. During the past several weeks, more than a dozen Petaluma residents have reported receiving emails that open with the recipient’s name, address, claiming they are watching them. The email claims to have placed malware on their computer and even have compromising photos of them viewing illicit materials online. Police say there is NO factual basis for these claims and they are attempting to gain access to the recipient’s personal devices or extort money from them. If you think you have been a target of a phishing email, please contact the Petaluma Police Department at (707) 778-4372.
