Over 700 pounds of trash was collected from six Sonoma County beaches. It was part of the 40th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day this past Saturday. Over 300 volunteers participated locally in the clean up. Statewide, at least 28,000 volunteers picked up over 242-thousand pounds of trash. The Press Democrat reports that the Russian Riverkeeper hosted a simultaneous effort collecting close to 16,000 pounds of garbage from the river and its tributaries.
