Sonoma County Health Officer Doctor Tanya Phares is planning to step down soon. On Wednesday, the county Board of Supervisors confirmed Phares has submitted her resignation notice after less than a year on the job. Phares tells the Press Democrat she hopes to return to clinical practice. Before landing the job as Sonoma County’s top public health official, she practiced internal medicine and served as a health care executive in Reno, Nevada. Last month, the county health department’s top administrator, Tina Rivera, also resigned.
