The sister of Polly Klaas is speaking out against a statewide tough-on-crime ballot measure. The Press Democrat reports that 43-year-old Jess Nichol spoke out against Prop 36 when asked about it at a recent talk at Dominican University in San Rafael. Nichol called the measure “punitive” and “regressive,” and also called it a fool’s errand, feeding “the hungry ghost of vengeance.” If passed, Prop 36 would reclassify some misdemeanor theft and drug crimes as felonies.
