A Guerneville resident who was paralyzed in a car crash in her freshman year at Chico State is getting help from the community. In late August, Maisie Boland was riding in a car with four other people when it took a turn too fast and crashed into a boulder. Boland was the only one who suffered serious injuries being paralyzed from the ribs down. The 18-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. A GoFundMe was started by family and friends for Boland’s medical bills, rehab, home modifications, and travel expenses for the family. It has thus far raised about $222,000. Boland is currently living with her grandparents in Walnut Creek while her family in Guerneville work to make their home more wheelchair accessible.
