Summerfield Cinemas will remain open for the time being.
It was supposed to be transformed into a Planet Fitness after the east Santa Rosa shopping center it calls home was sold. But, a deal in place to sell the shopping center fell through. Controversial plans to shut the theater down were first proposed in the fall of 2023.
At the time, the Lakeside Shopping Center was in escrow with a new owner. The sale, which was in the works for 19 months, has been called off.
