A landmark settlement has been reached in the long-running legal battle over ranching in Point Reyes National Seashore.
Under the agreement, most private ranching operations within the park will be phased out over the next 15 months. Twelve ranches, including all four dairies, will be bought out by The Nature Conservancy. Two smaller beef ranches will continue with long-term leases.
The settlement also includes provisions for assisting displaced farmworkers and transitioning the land to a focus on ecological restoration and expanded public access.
