Sonoma County Creates Committee To Oversee Fire Services Tax Spending

Sonoma County is getting a committee to oversee its fire services tax spending. The creation of the eleven-member committee was approved by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

It will oversee the spending of revenue raised by Measure H, a newly implemented sales tax that benefits local fire districts. The countywide half-cent sales tax was passed by voters last March and took effect in October. It is expected to raise about $60 million per year.

The appointed oversight committee will be responsible for reviewing, at least annually, the revenue the sales tax generates. It must also produce an annual report on how the funds are being used.
