Firefighters are still battling two massive blazes burning in the Los Angeles area.
Winds in the region are easing up today, giving crews a chance to make more progress. The Palisades Fire, near the coast, and the Eaton fire, in and around Altadena and Pasadena, have left thousands of homes and businesses destroyed. At least 27 people have been confirmed dead from the fires and at least 31 people are missing. More than 170-thousand people are under evacuation orders and warnings. Governor Gavin Newsom says Hazmat crews from the EPA will begin clearing debris from burnt out neighborhoods starting today.
As of the last update from California fire officials, the Palisades fire is 22% contained while the Eaton fire is at 55%.
State Farm will be offering policy renewals to homeowners who were impacted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County.
Wednesday’s announcement comes after the insurance company previously announced plans to drop coverage. The company says, so far, it has received more than 74-hundred home and auto insurance claims connected with the fires. That number is expected to rise significantly in the coming days and weeks.
