Sonoma County could be getting a standalone elections office. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will be considering the proposal at Tuesday’s meeting.
Right now, elections are processed by the Clerk-Recorder-Assessor, Registrar of Voters Office. In response to increasing demand in recent years, the new department would only handle elections. The change is being proposed by Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters Deva Marie Proto.
The current combined office handles several public needs, including elections, property assessments and marriage licenses, to name a few.
The new Registrar of Voters department would get a leader appointed by the board.
