Sonoma County Board Of Supervisors Delays Real Estate Acquisitions

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors’ plans to discuss a proposed $114 million worth of real estate acquisitions are on hold.

The board pulled the discussion from the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, after county attorneys received a letter from attorneys representing the Service Employees International Union Local 1021. SEIU 1021, Sonoma County’s largest public employee labor union, opposes the proposed purchases, saying the county would be overpaying for several buildings.

The letter also accuses Supervisor David Rabbitt of taking part in a pay-to-play scheme. The union claims Rabbitt improperly participated in closed-session discussions about the properties the county may buy. That was allegedly after he received a campaign contribution from the agent of one of the involved brokerage firms.
