Sonoma County is boosting worker wages and benefits on construction projects.
The Board of Supervisors approved an agreement requiring contractors to pay union-level wages and benefits on most County construction and maintenance projects over $1 million. This expands a 2014 policy that applied to projects over $10 million. Board Chair Lynda Hopkins says the move strengthens the economy and community by ensuring fair wages and providing employers with a clear labor agreement template, reducing delays.
The agreement, which also covers the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, Sonoma Water, and several sanitation districts, takes effect 30 days after a template agreement is signed by the County and the North Bay Building Trades Council. It excludes disaster and emergency work, and projects with funding restrictions.
