Santa Rosa City Council Approves Changes To Landmark Permit Process

Santa Rosa homeowners in historic districts are getting a break.

The City Council has approved significant changes to the landmark permit process, making it easier and cheaper to renovate or maintain older homes. Fees, which skyrocketed last year, are being slashed by 92% for many projects, and more routine upgrades will no longer require permits at all. In addition, the city is consolidating the Cultural Heritage Board with the Design Review Board to streamline the review of construction and landmark alterations.

While some council members debated the ideal makeup of the new board, the measure passed, aiming to create a more efficient and resident-friendly process for preserving Santa Rosa’s historic character.
