Congressman Mike Thompson honored two local heroes at his annual Public Safety Heroes Awards ceremony in Vallejo.
Santa Rosa Police Detective Kelsea Nelson received a Congressional Record certificate for her exceptional work in locating a missing juvenile in 2024. Detective Nelson’s use of the NCIC database led to the safe recovery of the child several states away, and the arrest of a suspect. Her case was named the 2024 NCIC Success Story of the Year.
Also recognized was KT Swan, Program Director for Buckelew Programs’ inRESPONSE Mental Health Support Team. This team, established in 2022, provides a mental health-first response to crisis calls, diverting thousands of calls from police and EMS.
In 2024, inRESPONSE handled nearly 5,000 calls, offering crucial de-escalation, mental health evaluations, and wrap-around services.
