Cotati has a new City Council member.
John Savage, chair of the Cotati Planning Commission, was appointed Tuesday night to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Kay Rivers. Savage was chosen from five applicants, including former council member George Barich, who was recalled in 2009. Barich raised concerns about a “technical glitch” in the online agenda packet, claiming his application was incomplete.
City officials confirmed the full application was reviewed. Mayor Ben Ford cited the previous recall as a factor in not selecting Barich. Savage, praised for his experience and service on the Planning Commission, will serve until 2026.
