Sonoma County’s main ambulance service provider is seeking a nearly 25 percent rate hike less than a year and a half into its contract.
The Press Democrat reports local health officials and the Sonoma County Fire District have been negotiating a pair of rate increases totaling 24-point-two-five percent. The Fire District, which has an exclusive 30-million-dollar contract to provide ambulance services in Sonoma County’s urban core, is blaming it on unexpected operating costs and contract disputes.
The first increase would require the approval of county health officials, while the second would require the approval of the Board of Supervisors following an audit of the district’s ambulance services and finances.
