Sonoma County residents could face serious difficulty evacuating in the event of a major disaster.
A new report from the county’s civil grand jury says local emergency preparedness efforts are falling short, putting residents at risk of chaotic evacuations. This comes despite years of efforts to improve local disaster planning and response ahead of the next major firestorm, flood or another type of disaster.
The report says the tools and protocols in place function only as a foundation for evacuation plans. It also says those plans lack detailed, proactive steps.
