Petaluma Sea Lion Euthanized Following Serious Illness

The sea lion spotted in Petaluma in recent weeks has been euthanized.

The Marine Mammal Center confirms the sea lion was euthanized late last week after showing signs of toxic algae poisoning. The sea lion was frequently seen swimming and sunbathing in and near the Turning Basin and was later rescued from a local mall. Some people who saw it mentioned it looking sick.

A spokesperson for the Marine Mammal Center says it was twitching and having a seizure, which are symptoms of a serious illness.
