It’s officially grape harvest season, at least at one winery in Sonoma County.
Workers at Bartholomew Estate Winery in Sonoma started picking unripe grapes on Wednesday morning. The workers started out by picking Sauvignon Blanc grapes to make verjus, a nonalcoholic acidic juice made by pressing unripe fruit. The grapes will also be used to make various fruit concentrates and flavor extracts.
The harvest season usually starts in August, with sparkling and white wine producers the first to pick their grapes.
