The city of Clearlake has ended its contract with North Bay Animal Services, citing poor management and shelter overcrowding.
The Press Democrat reports the decision comes after a grand jury report criticized conditions at the Clearlake animal shelter. The city council voted to terminate the 10-year agreement, which began in 2022. North Bay Animal Services stated they were “disappointed” by the decision but respected the city’s authority.
The organization will continue to provide services for the next 60 days during the transition.
