The man who died in a plane crash off the Humboldt County coast last Sunday was a Santa Rosa resident.
On Wednesday, authorities identified the man who died as the pilot, 48-year-old Brian Mariette. The small plane crashed shortly after taking off from Shelter Cove Airport. A passenger was injured and airlifted to a hospital. Mariette was the registered owner of the plane.
The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office says he died of drowning.
