Sonoma County Fire District Seeks Ambulance Rate Increase

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will consider a two-point-four percent ambulance rate increase today for the county’s largest ambulance operator, Sonoma County Fire District.

The hike is far below the 24 percent increase the district requested earlier this year, citing rising labor costs and changes in patient insurance coverage. District Chief Ron Busch said another rate request is still planned.

The district took over the county’s roughly 30-million-dollar ambulance contract 18 months ago, expanding from Windsor and northern Santa Rosa to smaller agencies along the Russian River and coast.

The rates affect what patients and insurers are charged for ambulance services and equipment.
