Santa Rosa Police have arrested two men in a massive gift card fraud scheme, seizing an estimated 25,000 compromised cards.
The suspects, Yongsheng Zhao and Zhipeng Li, are accused of being part of an international network that would tamper with gift cards on store shelves. The arrests were a result of a multi-agency investigation aided by the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center, which used license plate readers to track the suspects.
Both men face multiple felony charges, and authorities are warning the public to carefully check gift card packaging for any signs of tampering before making a purchase.
