Windsor is getting a major new public preschool, thanks to a $5 million donation from the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians.
The Press Democrat reports the new facility, built on the Mattie Washburn Elementary campus, will serve over 100 young students at free or reduced cost, addressing what the school district calls a “preschool desert.”
The school is expected to open in early 2026. The donation allows the project to move forward and honors the tribe’s late chairwoman, Margie Mejia.
The district stresses the new preschool will significantly boost long-term academic success for local children.
