Sonoma Prepares To Update Laws Protecting Mobile Home Residents

Sonoma city leaders are preparing to update local laws protecting mobile home park residents.

According to the Sonoma Index-Tribune, residents and advocates argue the current 2004 ordinance is outdated, leaving 1,000 people—including seniors and low-income families—vulnerable to corporate park owners and potential park closures. These parks are called a vital source of affordable housing.

The proposed updates, expected for review in November, would require park owners to provide replacement housing and cover all relocation costs in the event of a closure. The city could also deny a closure if it worsens the affordable housing crisis. Leaders aim to be proactive in safeguarding these critical communities.
