Following a recent gang-related stabbing, community leaders and the Sonoma Police Department are launching an initiative to help families identify and prevent youth involvement with local gangs.
The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports Police Chief Brandon Cutting, along with officials from the Sonoma Valley Unified School District, the Boys & Girls Clubs, and other key organizations, will hold an initial, closed meeting later this month. The group aims to combine law enforcement’s expertise on gang indicators with the community’s resources for family support.
The plan includes a subsequent series of public meetings—to be conducted in both English and Spanish—to give families the knowledge and support needed to keep their children on a positive track. The effort is a proactive measure to address heightened community concern about gang activity in the Valley.
