Marin County has uncovered a payroll mistake, admitting it has been overpaying 22 employees in Health and Human Services for more than two years.
The Marin Independent Journal says the error, which stems from a mistakenly applied pay raise, amounts to over $300,000 in overpayments. County managers are now demanding the affected workers repay the money, with some facing bills over $20,000, and are moving to cut their current salaries.
The employees’ union is negotiating a solution, arguing that it would be a severe financial hardship and that the county should honor the rates offered to recently hired workers.
