Recall Effort For Petaluma City Councilmember

Petaluma City Council member Janice Cader Thompson is the target of a recall effort in District 1, with signature gatherers working to force a special election.

The Petaluma Argus-Courier reports recall proponents accuse Cader Thompson of “dismissive conduct” and poor judgment. However, the City Council is set to consider a resolution opposing the recall, which it calls “costly and divisive.”

A special election could cost taxpayers nearly $96,000, and the next regular election isn’t until November 2026. The deadline to collect the required 1,594 signatures is December 14th.

Former Petaluma mayors and union leaders are urging residents not to sign the petition, calling it unwarranted.
