The Sonoma Sister Cities Association is urgently appealing for help for its sister city, Kaniv, Ukraine, following recent, intense Russian attacks.
The Press Democrat reports Kaniv, a city of 29,000 people south of Kyiv, experienced its first systematic bombing on the night of October 9th and 10th. While a key hydroelectric power station survived, the explosions injured 11 people and caused extensive damage to a residential area.
According to local officials, the shockwaves damaged an estimated 2,340 windows in apartments, shops, and a kindergarten school.
The immediate needs are for financial donations to fund repairs and for warm winter supplies to help residents cope with the cold.
