State Senator Mike McGuire announced last Thursday he will run for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s newly drawn 1st Congressional District.
The Senate President Pro Tem is termed out of his current office in 2026. According to the Press Democrat, the new district, which stretches from Santa Rosa to the Nevada border, was recently created by Proposition 50.
McGuire is immediately seen as the frontrunner, with endorsements from top Democrats, including Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi.
The race already includes fellow Democrats Audrey Denney and Kyle Wilson, as well as incumbent Republican Doug LaMalfa, who has vowed to fight to keep the seat.
