A major new development in Cloverdale is drawing public concern over its potential connection to the controversial “Network State” movement, a trend associated with decentralized, crypto-funded communities.
The Press Democrat reportst the Esmeralda Land Co. proposed a large mixed-use neighborhood on the long-stalled Alexander Valley Resort site, featuring over 600 homes and multiple hotels. During a meeting Wednesday night, residents and some city officials confronted developer Devon Zuegel, accusing the project of being a “facade.”
Zuegel denied any plans for political autonomy or ties to controversial tech investors, emphasizing the development is purely focused on becoming part of the Cloverdale community and generating up to $80 million in revenue for the city.
The proposal is tentatively scheduled for final review by the City Council in late February.
