A new challenger has entered the race for California’s vast 1st Congressional District.
Santa Rosa labor lawyer Kyle Wilson, who turns 33 this weekend, is launching a long-shot bid for Congress, positioning himself as a progressive alternative to the political establishment.
The Press Democrat reports Wilson, whose family lost their home during the 2008 financial crisis, argues the American Dream is broken for young people and says his lack of political experience is an asset. He aligns himself with progressive, democratic-socialist ideals, advocating for policies like universal health care and higher taxes on the wealthy.
Wilson’s path to Washington grew tougher this week with the announcement that State Senator Mike McGuire will also run for the seat. Wilson joins the race against McGuire, fellow Democrat Audrey Denney, and the Republican incumbent, Doug LaMalfa.
He will hold a “Coffee with Kyle” event in Santa Rosa this Saturday at 1 p.m.
