Plans to expand seating at the Petaluma Community Sports Fields baseball diamond to 2,500 seats have met resistance from the Airport Commission.
The Petaluma Argus-Courier reports due to the field’s proximity to the airport, commissioners raised concerns about crowd safety, emergency response, and noise from potential concerts.
Project backers, who aim to attract a minor league Pioneer team, committed to conducting required traffic and safety studies, including an evacuation plan and a proposed shuttle service.
The commission states there is “more work to do” before the privately funded, multi-million dollar expansion can move forward.
