The Santa Rosa Police Department has announced an arrest following an anonymous tip received on November 11th through the Montgomery High School “STOPit” app.
The tip included a photo of three people holding firearms. While the photo did not contain a threat and was not taken on campus, the SRPD Gang Crimes Team began an investigation.
Detectives identified one of the subjects as 18-year-old Axel Silverio Guzman Palomino of Santa Rosa, who is not a student.
On December 2nd, a search warrant was served at his residence on Aston Avenue. Detectives recovered an AR-15 pistol, a .22 caliber rifle, a Glock 43 pistol, and ammunition. At least one of the recovered firearms is believed to be in the original photograph.
Police state the unsecured weapons and ammunition were found in a closet in the bedroom Mr. Guzman Palomino shares with his 2-year-old son.
Mr. Guzman Palomino was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of an assault weapon and child endangerment.
SRPD detectives do not believe the incident was connected to Montgomery High School or that the firearms were ever brought to campus. However, they credit the anonymous STOPit app tip with removing dangerous and illegally owned firearms from the community.
