Developer Of Potential Cloverdale Resort Project Addresses Water Scarcity Concerns

A large proposed housing and resort project in Cloverdale is facing major opposition over water scarcity concerns.

The Press Democrat reports the developer, Esmeralda Land Company, plans over 600 homes and two hotels on the Alexander Valley Resort site, requiring an estimated 76 million gallons of water annually.

Despite the developer’s assurances, projections show that Cloverdale’s total water demand could exceed its Russian River-fed supply during future drought years.

The developer is scheduled to address the City Council tonight, where residents are expected to voice strong opposition regarding the risk the project poses to the community’s water security.
