A Petaluma woman accused of stealing approximately $183,000 from a Santa Rosa landscaping company is set to be sentenced next month.
According to the Press Democrat, Jennifer Sutton, who served as the bookkeeper for LandZen from 2017 to 2023, pleaded no contest to two counts of elder theft in September. The thefts reportedly involved unauthorized credit card charges for cash advances, online purchases, and utility bills, including over $25,000 spent on DoorDash.
LandZen’s co-owner, Kate Hill, described the betrayal as deeply personal, stating Sutton worked closely with the family. Prosecutors are seeking a five-year split sentence and reject the defense’s claim that Sutton’s conduct was influenced by medical and financial strain.
Sutton’s sentencing is now scheduled for January 28th.
