Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Hold Athletic Fields Workshop

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is holding a key workshop next Tuesday, December 16th, to discuss the future of athletic fields.

The focus of the workshop is a deep dive into the pros and cons of both artificial turf and natural grass for sports fields across the county. The meeting, which begins no earlier than 10 a.m. in the Board Chambers, will feature updates from Regional Parks on existing and planned fields. Ag + Open Space will also discuss current grant criteria for athletic fields.

A major point of discussion will be the recent action by Zero Waste Sonoma to develop a model ordinance that could potentially ban or place a moratorium on artificial turf installations.

The Board is strongly encouraging public participation. Residents can attend the workshop to speak during the public comment period, or submit feedback via email to bos@sonomacounty.gov. The meeting will also be live-streamed.
