The National Weather Service has issued a widespread Flood Watch for the Bay Area as a major storm system moves in for the holiday week.
The watch takes effect Tuesday morning and remains in place through Friday, December 26th at 10:00 p.m. Forecasters warn that excessive rainfall could lead to rapid rises in creeks and streams, as well as significant flooding in urban areas and low-lying roads.
The alert covers nearly the entire region, including the San Francisco Peninsula, the East Bay valleys, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Local authorities are urging residents in flood-prone areas to clear gutters and secure sandbags now.
On the roads, remember: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Just six inches of moving water can knock you off your feet, and one foot of water can sweep away most vehicles. Stay tuned for further updates as conditions develop.
