A routine traffic stop in Santa Rosa has taken a massive amount of fentanyl off the streets.
On Wednesday afternoon, a Santa Rosa Police officer pulled over a vehicle on the 2500 block of Cleveland Avenue for a traffic violation. During the stop, a Sheriff’s K9 alerted officers to the presence of drugs.
A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately one kilogram of suspected fentanyl hidden inside a seat. Police say that is enough to constitute 50,000 lethal doses.
The driver, 37-year-old local resident Fabian Chavez-Carranza, was arrested on charges of possession and transportation of narcotics for sale. He is currently being held at the Sonoma County Jail with a bail enhancement of $100,000.
