Car Crash Followed By Equipment Failure Left Thousands In Sebastopol Without Power

A morning commute accident in Sebastopol left thousands in the dark yesterday after a car vs. pole crash triggered a massive secondary power failure.

The Press Democrat reports the trouble started at 6:00 a.m. when a driver struck a utility pole on Healdsburg Avenue. While that initial crash only affected a few hundred people, PG&E says an underground equipment failure during the repair process knocked out power to an additional 5,000 customers across West Sonoma County.

Police attribute the crash to driver inattention and say no injuries were reported. After a morning of road closures and outages, PG&E confirmed that all power was fully restored by 11:30 a.m.
