Santa Rosa Teachers Vote “No Confidence” Amid Budget Improvements

Santa Rosa City Schools officials announced a major milestone Wednesday, confirming the district has moved toward financial stability and avoided a state takeover.

According to the Press Democrat, the news was overshadowed by a massive protest from teachers and staff who say the recovery comes at the cost of “educational ruin.” Over 97% of union members voted “no confidence” in district and county leadership, citing the devastating impact of roughly 120 layoffs and the loss of student mental health services.

While administrators argue these painful cuts were the only way to maintain local control and ensure the district’s long-term survival, union leaders are demanding a reversal of the plan.

As the district exits its fiscal crisis, a new crisis of trust remains, with both sides deeply divided over the future of Sonoma County’s largest school system.
