Violence Mars Otherwise Vibrant Roseland Cinco de Mayo

Santa Rosa’s Roseland district celebrated its 17th annual Cinco de Mayo festival Tuesday, drawing large crowds for traditional mariachi music, food, and local performances.

According to the Press Democrat, the community event featured student musicians and dozens of vendors along Sebastopol Road, with organizers reporting a higher turnout than in previous years.

However, the celebration was shaken late in the evening when a 20-year-old man was shot in the Roseland Library parking lot just outside the festival grounds. The victim is currently in stable condition after suffering life-threatening injuries, and police were on hand to provide immediate aid.

While the festival concluded on schedule, committee members say they will meet to discuss boosting security to ensure future events remain safe for the community.
