An 86-year-old Washington woman has died following a pedestrian accident in Guerneville Tuesday afternoon.
Per the Press Democrat, authorities say Gwen Simmerman was using a signaled crosswalk at Armstrong Woods Road and Highway 116 when she was struck by a turning pickup truck. Simmerman was rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital but succumbed to her injuries late Tuesday night.
The driver, 61-year-old Darin Dempsey of Guerneville, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence. While Dempsey was booked into Sonoma County Jail on DUI and additional charges, records indicate he is no longer in custody.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash.
