The Humane Society of Sonoma County is undergoing a major transformation to tackle the region’s pet overpopulation crisis.
The Press Democrat reports thanks to a community fundraising surge and a massive matching donation from Bill and Cindy Gallaher, the Highway 12 facility is doubling its surgery capacity.
The revamped medical suite will allow staff to jump from 3,500 to 7,000 spay and neuter procedures annually while expanding low-cost dental and emergency care. Executive Director Cynthia King says the expansion is critical for keeping pets with their families and reducing shelter overcrowding.
Construction is moving fast, with the grand reopening of the clinic scheduled for May 18th.
