Cold and flu viruses are continuing an unseasonable spread across Northern California as summer rapidly approaches.
Recent wastewater monitoring reveals that RSV remains at moderate levels in several major cities, including San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Redwood City.
Health experts report that the highest virus concentrations are currently lighting up western San Francisco and parts of Marin County, including Corte Madera and Novato. Researchers suggest this unusual late-season trend could be tied to reduced public exposure to common illnesses during past COVID-19 lockdowns.
However, they also note that Northern California conducts far more extensive wastewater tracking than many other regions, which naturally uncovers more viral activity.
