Santa Rosa Man Killed In Highway One Cliff Crash

A fifty-eight-year-old Santa Rosa man has died after his SUV plunged off a cliff along Highway One in Santa Cruz County on Monday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol officials say the driver was traveling north of Scott Creek around one o’clock when his vehicle veered off the roadway, tearing through vegetation and going over the cliff edge.

Santa Cruz lifeguards immediately swam to the beach below to perform CPR, while a Cal Fire rescue helicopter hoisted the man back up to the highway for emergency medical treatment.

Tragically, officials report he succumbed to major injuries at the scene. Crash investigators say it is still unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident.
