Solar Panel Recycle Event This Friday at Luther Burbank Center

Do you need to recycle old solar panels? Zero Waste Sonoma will join the Conservation Corps North Bay and CalRecycle to host the county’s first residential solar panel collection event this Friday (June 16th) at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. Solar panels are currently considered universal waste, a category of hazardous waste that cannot be safely disposed of in a landfill. They contain valuable materials – including cadmium telluride, silver, copper and silicon – that can be removed and reutilized, reducing the need for additional mining to meet demand for new solar panels. Anyone is the county may bring up to 40 panels for recycling but an appointment is required. You can set one up by visiting ZeroWasteSonoma.gov.
